I have tried it with version 5.2 and was not possible to reproduce the crash.
Which version do u use?

Do you have the same crash in ImportExport sample?

please, try this:
1. run ImportExport.exe,
2. open screw.stp,
3. open hammer.iges.
do you have a crash?

it's version 5.2. the crash is eliminated when the writing to log file for step reader is disabled.
