Help users finish difficult parts
A small edge feature can hold up an entire design. Tight corners, short edges, and crowded junctions make fillets and chamfers demanding operations. Advanced Fillets & Chamfers focuses on these cases so your application can offer a more flexible finishing workflow.
Help users finish parts with fewer manual workarounds and clearer feedback when a feature needs adjustment.
How it works
Users select an edge or a connected set of edges, then choose a rounded transition or a bevel. Transition settings guide the new surfaces around neighboring geometry. Your application can preview the result, show areas that need adjustment, and let users refine the shape before accepting it.
Shape a transition around its purpose
Round an edge for a smooth connection or add a bevel for clearance and assembly. Adjust transition controls to suit local geometry and the intended design. Connected edge selection helps users work across a feature as a whole.
These controls support product design, manufacturing preparation, and repair of imported parts.
Choose a constant or variable radius
A uniform radius gives a part a consistent rounded edge. A variable radius can help a transition follow areas where available space varies. Chamfer controls serve a different need: a deliberate bevel for assembly clearance, edge treatment, or manufacturing preparation. Choose supported settings to suit each feature’s shape and purpose.
Quality depends on how a transition joins its neighboring faces and ends near other features. Inspect these connections as a whole, especially where several edges meet. Keeping selection and transition settings together makes it easier to adjust a difficult area and compare alternatives without rebuilding the surrounding design by hand.
Work with tight corners and difficult junctions
Short edges, narrow faces, and several transitions meeting at one corner can make edge finishing difficult. Flexible transition settings help users adjust a feature around nearby holes, cuts, and curved faces.
A useful result needs smooth joins and connected boundaries. Showing affected geometry during review helps users decide whether to keep a transition or change its settings. This can reduce time spent rebuilding a difficult corner by hand.
Keep a small design change from becoming a rebuild
A late change adds clearance beside a mounting hole. Nearby edges become shorter, and an existing round no longer fits the revised corner. Recreating that area by hand can take more effort than the original change and make the part harder to maintain.
A CAD application can let the designer review the affected edge chain, try a different radius or transition setting, and inspect the joins before accepting a result. Variable-radius controls provide another option where available space changes along the feature. Difficult junctions can receive focused attention while the rest of the part stays in view.
This gives product teams a practical way to handle finishing changes during design review. Manufacturing preparation teams can use the same controls on imported parts, checking the result against their edge-treatment requirements before continuing to meshing or other processing.
