Present manufacturing information with the 3D model

PMI Visualization provides presentations for dimensions, geometric tolerances, datum information and manufacturing annotations in engineering applications. Users can review the requirements associated with geometry in a 3D context rather than viewing the shape alone.

The supported presentations include linear, angular and radial dimensions, thickness callouts, feature-control frames, datum references, text and surface-finish symbols.

Linear, angular and radial dimension presentations

Connect source information to its presentation

A PMI workflow has separate concerns: obtaining the information from the source, retaining its relationship to geometry, and presenting it for a user. The source translator determines which data reaches the application; the visualization component determines how the presentation is built.

Documented source workflows include STEP AP242 and JT exchange, with appropriate translators for other formats. Specify graphical presentation and semantic-data requirements separately when assessing an exchange route.

Tolerance and datum presentations

Design a useful inspection or review interface

For a dimensional review, identify which callouts must be visible with the selected geometry and how the user changes views. For an inspection application, establish which datum and tolerance information must be available to the next operation. These application decisions help define the presentation and interaction scope.

The published component description references ISO 1101:2012 and ISO 16792:2015 for tolerancing and presentation. Confirm the required standard editions and presentation coverage for the selected delivery; the component description is not a certification of the complete application.

Notes, symbols and geometry combinations

Presentations can be constructed from combinations of points, lines and surfaces. In addition to dimensions and datum references, the component covers position-tolerance indicators, text annotations, surface-finish symbols, special notations and manufacturing specifications.

PMI notes, surface-finish symbols and special notations

These presentation types support different reading tasks: dimensions describe size or angle, feature-control frames express tolerancing requirements, and notes carry additional manufacturing instructions. Keeping them associated with the intended geometry helps a review interface show the relevant information when a user selects a feature or changes the view.

Evaluate PMI with representative models

Bring files containing the actual dimensions, symbols, notes and datum combinations your users need. Check the imported information and the displayed result, including geometry association and readability in the intended views.
