OCCT conversion workflows

AMF to STEP

Convert AMF to STEP (STP). Transfer supported geometry and document data through OCCT; mesh sources remain polygonal.

Build this conversion into your application with OCCT readers, writers and the commercial components identified below.

Read AMF for STEP output

Transfer AMF meshes into a STEP workflow with the AMF reader and STEP writer. This route carries polygonal geometry in the receiving document; it does not recreate the original CAD surfaces or feature history.

Read the AMF geometry through the Assimp integration and inspect the mesh, object structure and appearance returned by the reader. Select the parts required downstream.

Configure the STEP geometry and document mapping

The Assimp integration provides mesh geometry, colors, materials and scene structure for its supported inputs. Pass that data to a separate OCCT or commercial writer. For STEP, STEP XML or DXF output, use the mesh-capable representation; this does not reconstruct BRep surfaces from polygons.

Write the imported model through the OCCT STEP interface. STEP supports BRep and mesh workflows, so choose the representation supported by the receiving application. Use the document layer when names, colors and assembly relationships are available and need to be transferred.

Check the STEP result

Check each imported object and its placement. Manufacturing metadata and process settings are separate from the mesh and require explicit retention checks.

Reopen the STEP file in the destination and compare geometry coverage, placements, names and colors. A mesh representation remains polygonal inside STEP. If the next task requires solid modeling, verify that the source and output contain the required BRep geometry.

Discuss this conversion with the producing and receiving applications, representative files and required geometry and attributes. Compare the reader/writer catalog when a different representation is needed.
