OCCT conversion workflows

OCCT BRep to OBJ

Convert OCCT BRep to OBJ. Prepare polygonal geometry, grouping and supported appearance for Wavefront OBJ output.

Build this conversion into your application with OCCT readers, writers and the commercial components identified below.

Read OCCT BRep for OBJ conversion

A OCCT BRep-to-OBJ workflow combines the OCCT BRep reader with the OBJ writer. Use it when the receiving application needs OBJ data from an existing OCCT BRep model.

Read native OCCT BRep shapes from BREP or SHAPE files. This provides geometry and topology for modeling or tessellation. A standalone shape file is not an XDE document and should not be assumed to contain assembly names, colors or materials.

Prepare polygonal geometry for OBJ

Use the imported shapes directly for a precise CAD writer, or generate surface triangulation for a mesh writer. If the input contains open shells, faces or wires, select the geometry appropriate to the target instead of assuming every shape is a solid.

Write the selected surface mesh with the OBJ interface. Establish whether the consumer needs per-part grouping, normals or supported appearance information, and preserve any associated material resources produced by the writer. A polygon file is not a replacement for the full CAD document.

Validate the OBJ result

If application-owned labels, placements or appearance must accompany the shape, supply them explicitly in the document passed to the writer. Keep this enrichment distinct from information read from the BRep file.

Check the OBJ in the receiving graphics or geometry tool, including scale, face orientation, grouping and companion-file references. Where a flat mesh cannot retain the original assembly relationships, keep that engineering information separately.

For a production pipeline, keep a representative source file and its expected geometry and attributes with the conversion settings. Discuss conversion integration with the source and destination applications, or compare the supported format interfaces.
