OCCT conversion workflows

COLLADA DAE to STEP XML

Convert COLLADA DAE to STEP XML. Write STPX, STPA, STPZ or STPZX with supported geometry, names, colors and structure.

Build this conversion into your application with OCCT readers, writers and the commercial components identified below.

Read COLLADA DAE for STEP XML output

Transfer COLLADA DAE meshes into a STEP XML workflow with the COLLADA DAE reader and STEP XML writer. This route carries polygonal geometry in the receiving document; it does not recreate the original CAD surfaces or feature history.

Read the DAE asset with the Assimp integration and inspect the geometry and scene hierarchy available to the application. Resolve the resources used by the source materials.

Choose the STEP XML representation and extension

The Assimp integration provides mesh geometry, colors, materials and scene structure for its supported inputs. Pass that data to a separate OCCT or commercial writer. For STEP, STEP XML or DXF output, use the mesh-capable representation; this does not reconstruct BRep surfaces from polygons.

Write STPX, STPA, STPZ or STPZX with the STEP XML component. It supports BRep and mesh data, assemblies, names, colors and STEP attributes. Transfer only the source information available through the complete route; the target can carry mesh without turning it into analytic geometry.

Check the STEP XML result

Check nested transforms, scale and supported appearance. This integration guide covers mesh, colors, materials and structure; it does not imply transfer of every authoring or animation feature of COLLADA.

Reopen the selected STEP XML variant with the intended consumer. Check geometry representation, placements, names and colors, and explicitly verify any required attributes. Use the agreed extension and application version for repeatable interchange.

Discuss this conversion with the producing and receiving applications, representative files and required geometry and attributes. Compare the reader/writer catalog when a different representation is needed.
