OCCT conversion workflows

glTF / GLB to PLY

Convert glTF / GLB to PLY. Prepare source geometry, select the target writer and verify placements and supported attributes.

Build this conversion into your application with OCCT readers, writers and the commercial components identified below.

Read glTF / GLB for PLY output

A glTF / GLB-to-PLY workflow connects the glTF / GLB reader to the PLY writer. Select the model items and output representation needed by the receiving application.

Read the glTF or GLB asset with the OCCT glTF interface. Resolve the geometry and companion resources used by the source scene, then inspect nodes, placements and the appearance information available through the reader.

Select the polygon data required by the PLY consumer

Transfer the scene meshes through the application document, preserving the selected placements. For a CAD container, write a supported mesh representation rather than claiming recovery of analytic surfaces. Treat unsupported scene properties as separate data to retain or author explicitly.

Write a polygonal derivative with the OCCT PLY interface. Agree on the mesh and property fields needed by the consumer: the PLY extension alone does not guarantee compatible color or other per-element property handling. Keep assembly and CAD metadata separately when it has no destination mapping.

Check the PLY result

Check scene scale, axis conventions and repeated objects. Materials, textures and scene behavior may not have an equivalent in the target; compare the required appearance and structure in the receiving application.

Reopen the PLY in the downstream processing tool and compare units, bounds, surface coverage and the expected properties. Native PLY support in the catalog is write-only; this route does not imply a native PLY reader for the reverse direction.

Discuss this conversion with the producing and receiving applications, representative files and required geometry and attributes. Compare the reader/writer catalog when a different representation is needed.
