OCCT conversion workflows

PLY to glTF / GLB

Convert PLY to glTF / GLB through a mesh workflow. Prepare geometry, map supported data and validate the result in the receiving application.

Build this conversion into your application with OCCT readers, writers and the commercial components identified below.

Prepare PLY geometry for glTF / GLB

The PLY-to-glTF / GLB route uses the PLY reader, mesh preparation and the glTF / GLB writer. Choose the geometry and representation required by the destination application.

Read polygonal PLY through the Assimp import route. The native OCCT catalog lists PLY writing, while Assimp supplies a PLY reader. Check the imported faces and available vertex properties before selecting an output representation.

Assimp lists PLY among its supported inputs. Select a delivery with that reader enabled.

Prepare a scene for glTF or GLB delivery

Transfer the imported polygonal geometry into the target mesh workflow. A point-only PLY needs a surface-reconstruction step before a surface-mesh export; changing its extension does not create face connectivity.

Map supported model items into glTF scene nodes and configure the mesh, placements and appearance for browser or application delivery. Decide whether the receiving workflow expects a GLB package or glTF with companion resources. Keep names useful for selection and inspection.

Validate the converted model

Check face coverage and the property fields required by the recipient. PLY variants can use different properties, so color and other data need validation against the actual reader and writer mapping.

Reopen the asset in the target viewer and compare orientation, bounds, assembly placement and visible surface quality. Check material mapping and resource paths. Measure loading cost together with geometric detail so that reducing mesh size does not silently remove required features.

For repeated jobs, retain the source, preparation settings and representative output checks. Discuss this conversion with the input files, destination application and required geometry and attributes.
