OCCT conversion workflows

RVM to STEP

Convert RVM to STEP through a mesh workflow. Prepare geometry, map supported data and validate the result in the receiving application.

Build this conversion into your application with OCCT readers, writers and the commercial components identified below.

Prepare RVM geometry for STEP

The RVM-to-STEP route uses the RVM reader, mesh preparation and the STEP writer. Choose the geometry and representation required by the destination application. STEP can carry mesh data as well as BRep; this route does not imply recovery of analytic CAD surfaces from a mesh.

Read the AVEVA PDMS Review Model with the RVM interface. Select the plant areas, equipment or geometry needed by the destination rather than exporting unrelated portions of a large review model.

Configure the STEP geometry and document mapping

Prepare polygonal output from the imported geometry, retaining suitable meshes or tessellating supported surfaces. Check model placements and coordinate scale before merging parts or constructing a destination scene.

Write the imported model through the OCCT STEP interface. STEP supports BRep and mesh workflows, so choose the representation supported by the receiving application. Use the document layer when names, colors and assembly relationships are available and need to be transferred.

Validate the converted model

Include small fittings and curved equipment as well as large structures in the comparison. Keep plant identifiers and engineering properties separately when the target cannot represent them.

Reopen the STEP file in the destination and compare geometry coverage, placements, names and colors. A mesh representation remains polygonal inside STEP. If the next task requires solid modeling, verify that the source and output contain the required BRep geometry.

For repeated jobs, retain the source, preparation settings and representative output checks. Discuss this conversion with the input files, destination application and required geometry and attributes.
