OCCT conversion workflows

USD / USDZ to XCAF

Convert USD / USDZ to XCAF for OCCT applications. Store imported geometry with supported names, colors and document structure.

Build this conversion into your application with OCCT readers, writers and the commercial components identified below.

Read USD / USDZ for XCAF output

Transfer USD / USDZ meshes into a XCAF workflow with the USD / USDZ reader and XCAF writer. This route carries polygonal geometry in the receiving document; it does not recreate the original CAD surfaces or feature history.

Read USD, USDZ or USDA with the USD component. It supports meshes, primitives, names, hierarchy, colors, metadata, materials and animations. Select the scene nodes and the scene state required for the receiving workflow.

Build and store an XCAF document

Prepare the imported meshes and any supported primitives for the target representation. For a static output, select or evaluate the required animation state in the application and apply the corresponding placements. Source animation support does not make a static CAD or mesh format animated.

Place the imported geometry in an XCAF document and map the supported names, colors and structure to its labels. Use the native OCCT document storage appropriate to the selected XBF or XML delivery. Mesh data can remain mesh in the document; creating labels does not generate analytic CAD surfaces.

Check the XCAF result

Validate unit scale, orientation, nested transforms and geometry coverage. USD materials, animation and metadata need individual mapping checks; only properties supported by the destination can travel with the converted model.

Reopen the document in the intended OCCT application and verify geometry, occurrence placements and mapped attributes. Keep application-specific additions distinct from source properties. XCAF storage is useful for continuing an OCCT workflow, but the recipient must support the chosen document format.

Discuss this conversion with the producing and receiving applications, representative files and required geometry and attributes. Compare the reader/writer catalog when a different representation is needed.
